The Definition of LOVE

This poem was inspired by a poetry exercise I found online.  The poet is supposed to make a poem using only the words from a dictionary definition of a chosen word. My chosen word was "love." I tweaked this exercise a bit and allowed for some extra words besides just the ones used in the definition (The words from the definition are in red). Hope you enjoy! :)

The Definition of LOVE

My Darling, My Beloved,

I adore you.

This warm attraction fills me with an unselfish desire

to always be there for you.

Always I will be loyal.

My devotion is complete.

You may be filled with sweet assurance

that I will always hold you

in admiration and tenderness.

Rest assured that no one else feels for you the way I do.

What I mean to say is,

I LOVE you.

Different but the Same

We live in a world of contraries:

Pleasure and pain, happiness and sadness, good and evil.

But things aren’t different because they’re not the same…

They are different because we make them so.

Everything is dependent on our emotions, perspective.

You choose how to see the world.

We turn the kaleidoscope wheel:

Pain becomes pleasure.

Sadness becomes happiness.

Evil becomes good.

Are you seeing the world in a whole different way?

Or is it really still the same?

See

All I can hear is

the beat of your heart.

Enveloped in your arms,

I never want you to let go.

I want to stay like this

 forever.

The world seems silent,

but it’s sonorous with sensation.

The feel of your warm body pressed against mine

causes my soul to sing.

The feel of your fingers gently exploring my body

shoots shivers up and down my spine.

We don’t need eyes to see.

We see with our fingers,

with our hearts,

with our souls.

When we close our eyes, the world is suddenly clear.

We finally see

love.

In a Cloud

Surrounded by soft, shimmering wisps

That glow in the moonlight

And caress your face,

Held aloft in a blanket of velvet,

You gaze up at the multitude of stars above.

As you float serenely across the sky,

All you can feel is wonder.

The weight on your heart is finally lifted.

Despite the clouds that surround you,

Your mind is completely clear.

You have no fear.

Because like the universe,

You are infinite.

Meeting a Mink

I wrote the following poem after seeing a mink in the wild for the first time.  I was hiking with my dad near the river and spotted the little guy through my binoculars. It was so amazing to see!! Being in nature makes me so happy. :)

Meeting a Mink

Jet black fur, against a backdrop of white

Two contrasting pieces

That somehow fit perfectly into place.

I watch in wonder as your whimsical form prances

Soundlessly across the snow,

Before you disappear,

Hidden down a hole.

Shy nymph of the winter,

Your brief presence has brightened my day.

Begin Again

The pain will never completely disappear,
But I have learned to deal with it and learn from it.
Life is beautiful.
I am beautiful.

My prince is out there, and I won’t stop until I’ve found him.
Like a phoenix, I rise from the ashes.
It’s time to live.
It’s time to begin again.

Magnets

Where fire and ice collide:

That’s where You’ll find me.

We are so different,

 Polar opposites,

But every day we are becoming

More and more the same.

Our poles aligning,

Two becoming one:

One Will, One Love, One Soul.

There’s just something about You…

So beautiful,

 I would do anything

To please You,

To make You smile,

To be Yours.
